At Macdonald school we acknowledge that mental health is just as important as physical health; as they can often impact each other. Everyone has or will be affected by mental health to varying degrees at some point in their life. It is important that we have the tools, education, and resources to recognize and deal with what our minds and bodies are experiencing. Also, mental health issues are surprisingly common within children. Our goal at the school is to remove the stigma around mental health issues and ensure children and parents have access to information, tools and support.
At the school we directly address childhood emotions through various programs, tools and techniques. Some of the tools we use are through the Mind Up and FRIENDS Resilience programs (more information at the links below). As a compliment to these programs we also have a furnished sensory room available to all the children in the school on an as needed basis.
The school is also the venue for the Hope, Honour, Heroes mental health fundraiser who's goal is to shed light on childhood mental illnesses and provide avenues for early detection and treatment.
