Students are expected to:
- come to school on time
- be prepared by completing homework on time and having all supplies for class
- work to the best of their ability
- work cooperatively with others
- do as your teacher or supervisor asks
- use appropriate tone of voice
- take care of school books and equipment
- respect school property
- allow classmates to learn without distraction
- dress in an appropriate manner (ex. beer shirts, low cut shirts, etc.)
- follow all classroom rules
Teachers are expected to:
- come to school on time
- be in classroom at start of class time
- be respectful and courteous to students, staff and community members
- provide a safe and supportive learning environment
- be prepared for lessons
- be available for students during homework club hours as needed
Parents are expected to:
- encourage their child to be a respectful and courteous member of the school community
- ensure child arrives at school on time and prepared
- provide a quiet and safe home environment for their child to do homework
- participate in discussions and decisions concerning their child’s education
- support teachers and school in all endeavors
Unacceptable behaviors at Macdonald School include:
- swearing
- disruptive or disrespectful behaviors
- fighting or physical aggression
- vandalism
- threats
- bullying/harassment
- skipping school/classes without an acceptable reason
- theft
- inappropriate classroom behavior
- inappropriate clothing/attire
- defiance of school authority
- use of drugs or alcohol or tobacco
- plagiarism or cheating
- tardiness
- persistent neglect of academic activities
- misuse of school property
- use of cell phones on school property
- inappropriate computer use
- ** Or any behavior deemed inappropriate that is not included in the above list
Consequences
Depending on the infraction, one or more consequences may be used that best meets the needs of the individual student. These may include:
- verbal reminder
- phone call to parents
- visit to principal
- removal of privileges (ex. field trips)
- action plans
- contracts
- class trade
- in-school suspension
- out of school suspension
- expulsion
Attendance
Every effort will be made to monitor attendance. Attendance is a key element to academic success. The Education Act recognizes that absences are allowed for:
- illness
- buses not running (for bus students)
- medical or dental treatment
- religious holidays
- compassionate leave
- extended travel
In order to ensure educational outcomes are reached, attendance is compulsory. Consequences for unexcused absences will be enforced. The following consequences will be used:
- loss of privileges (ex. field trips)
- loss of final exam recommends
- loss of attitude marks
- loss of academic marks
- After 3 unexcused absences in a term, there will be a phone call to the student’s home.
- After 4 unexcused absences in a term, the school will arrange a meeting with the parents.
- After 5 unexcused absences in a term, there will be a loss of privileges and/or loss of final exam recommends.
